How We are Influenced

Influencing Human Behaviour and Life

The twentieth century artist John Berger showed how images can be used to promote feelings and connections in our body that many advertisers seek to exploit in selling products. The advertisements are typically images of a desired lifestyle that far exceeds the reality of the individual however uses peer pressure to force and condition an unsuspecting observer. As Aristotle once said do these images fool us with with their beauty or degrade our soul.

In today's fast paced life images are directed at us at ever rapid pace through social and mass media outlets that the challenge is to now find what is real and  what is conditioning.   As George Carlin said we have a front row seat to the freak. show.  The ability of advertisers to reach us in our own home or on our own portable devices is unmatched in history.   Aristotle is perhaps present, that these images act to condition our soul and influence our actions as to purchase and obtain products that we would ordinarily not even  contemplate. The individual is now seen as a commodity from which to profit through whatever means possible and at whatever expense be it financial or degradation of health through mental allegiance. If you continue to misuse your body it will talk back to you and let you know how it feels and it is those feelings that many of us try to drown out with potions and remedies that feed the fuel of a capitalistic industry based in fear and control.

It is for this reason that Buddhist monks seek to extricate themselves from mainstream life so they may gain wisdom and perspective to assist everyday souls caught up in the cloud of everyday consumerism.

I experienced this first hand where I was treated as a human commodity from which to exploit with expensive drugs that serve no purpose than to alleviate symptoms leaving the individual alive but closer to death.

As normal laypeople we don't have the opportunity of a monk to sit and contemplate events however we do have a more powerful method and  that is introspection with awareness and perception.   The body has systems in place to store everything so to unravel and rewrite the code we need to  develop these qualities which come more naturally each time we remove of toxins from the body.  The effect is both physical and karmic.

Treading this path needs the  individual to become the observer and aware that all actions have consequences.  In doing so you can reverse aging and become younger and fitter again especially when doing regressions.

Like in Plato's allegory of the cave challenges will arise and emotions will stir however, those that are persistant will be rewarded with vitality and radiance not seen since the days of youth.
